Howdy!

My name’s Andrea Werhun and I’m a writer, performer, and producer based in Toronto. I’m the author & co-creator of Modern Whore: A Memoir (2022, Strange Light/Penguin Random House Canada), an acclaimed sex work art book made in collaboration with filmmaker Nicole Bazuin. The book is soon to be a major motion picture, starring yours truly!

In addition to our book, I’m the subject, performer, and producer of our award-winning short films Modern Whore (SXSW) and follow up CBC short doc, Last Night at the Strip Club (Hot Docs).

I co-wrote, produced, and performed in Thriving: A Dissociated Reverie, starring Black non-binary former sex worker Kitoko Mai, about their dissociative identity disorder diagnosis. The film premiered in 2023 at the Sundance Film Festival.

On the topic of sex worker rights, I’ve written articles, given university lectures, led workshops, hosted and participated on panels, and performed countless readings of my work. I hold an undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto (2012), with a major in English and a double minor in Religion and Paradigms & Archetypes.

I have been interviewed by The New York Times, The Guardian, The Daily Mail, VICE, CBC, Hazlitt, and posed nude alongside my essay about sex work for the 65th Anniversary print issue of Playboy.
